A nearly four-year investigation into the Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, Maryland, uncovered more than 600 cases of sexual abuse of young people over 80 years. The Washington Post reports it. According to the Attorney General who led the investigation, there are likely “hundreds of others”.
The victims of abuse are very young, from four to 18 years old, explains the office of the prosecutor Brian Frosh. The investigation identified 115 priests who had previously been prosecuted by the Baltimore church for sexual abuse, plus 43 other priests “not publicly identified.” The investigation also revealed that the archdiocese “has not followed up on many allegations of sexual abuse, has not conducted adequate investigations into the violence, has not evicted the perpetrators or restricted their proximity to the children”. “He instead did everything to keep the abuses secret”, is the heavy accusation of the Baltimore prosecutor’s office.
